Drive ByRiot Squad RecordsYour initial knee-jerk reaction to hearing the moniker Drive By may invoke dark, urban images of shoot ?em ups but the band?s sound is more subtle than that. The band?s name is in fact a testament to kicking your own ass to do something in this world while your clock is still running.Born in Detroit, singer/guitarist Todd Price eventually left the Motor City and distanced himself from his previous bands (Plain, and Rev). Relocating to sunny San Diego Price tried to clean up his act and started working on new songs. Teaming up with Brian Schechter, founder of the Riot Squad label and management company (Circa Survive, My Chemical Romance), Price was shipped to New York City to hone his craft. After six months of demoing and refining a battery of songs, guitarist Dan Fitzgerald and drummer Jaeson Hertzberg joined the picture. One month later they found themselves opening for My Chemical Romance. Bassist Chris Perrino soon rounded out the Drive By lineup. In March of 2005 the band built its own studio, Citadel Recording Studio, in Belleville, New York. Ask any member of the band and he will testify that hammering nails into drywall was just as big a part of the creation of this record as playing riffs on their guitars. I Hate Every Day Without You Kid was produced by the band and mixed by Daniel Korneff (MCR, Ill Nino). The record?s opener, "...You're Not Alone," is a dark-tinged cautionary tale with the sonic throttle left wide open. "Promise" displays a sense of hope and positivism alongside the rich melodic figures. The ambitious "Spending Time Alone" was the first song Price wrote in San Diego and is clearly one of the disc's highlights. "That song is all about my life at the time," Price explains. "I put it all down on paper, assessed the situation and started singing about it." Drive By?s I Hate Every Day Without You Kid is in stores now on Riot Squad.
